On 1 July 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Digital India campaign. The aim of the Digital India program is to realise a fully digitized India. Turning Digital India Dream Into Reality
The Digital India campaign is designed to both flourish under and in turn empower various other Government of India initiatives such as Make in India, BharatNet, Startup India, Standup India and Dedicated Freight Corridors. Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) has been conferred wardenship of the BharatNet program by the Government of India. The aim is to link all 625,000 Indian villages to the digital platform by the end of 2018.

The Response To Digital India
The Digital India campaign has received a lot of international appreciation and industrial support from key players all over. Countries that have lauded the Indian government’s initiative include Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, the US, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
At the same time, Indian and international industry leaders also pledged their support for the initiative at the Digital India launch by way of investments to the tune of Rs.224.5 lakh crore (equivalent to USD 3.3 trillion).
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg vowed to help with Wi-Fi hotspots in rural India. Microsoft is planning to bring broadband connections to 500,000 Indian villages and use Indian data centers to appoint India as its cloud hub. Google pledged its support towards guaranteeing broadband access at 500 Indian railway stations. Oracle has decided to focus on smart city programs and payments and invest in 20 Indian states. Qualcomm has decided to support Indian entrepreneurs and industries with a plan to invest USD 150 million in Indian startups.
Industry leaders have identified the Digital India program’s potential for generating greater employment opportunities and revenues than ever before all the while promoting localized economic growth and self-reliance: if India is able to satisfactorily produce its own smartphones, mobile phones and other internet devices, it will no longer have to spend on importing these from other countries, thereby aiding the Indian economy on several fronts.
